Today I’m excited to share my healthy yum yum sauce with you. We love Japanese-style hibachi dinners at our house. In fact, it’s one of our favorite “celebration” dinners to enjoy out. And the best part? Drizzling that delicious yum yum sauce all over our chicken and vegetables! This is my take on a healthy yum yum sauce – lower calorie, higher protein and just as flavorful!
Traditional yum yum sauce is mayo-based and packed full of fat and calories. But, my healthy yum yum sauce is based on nonfat Greek yogurt with just a touch of mayo for flavor.
Traditional Yum Yum sauce vs Healthy Yum Yum sauce
Here’s a side-by-side comparison:
Traditional yum yum sauce: 2 tablespoons contains 170 calories, 17g fat, 0g protein and 3g of carbs.
My healthy yum yum sauce: 2 tablespoons contains 38 calories, 3g fat, 1g protein and 2g carbs.
How do you make light yum yum sauce?
I lighten up traditional yum yum sauce by swapping most of the high-fat mayo with a 0% fat Greek yogurt. I also cut down on the sugar. But, if you prefer a sweeter sauce, you can add your favorite sugar substitute or a bit more sugar to taste.
To make this easy, healthy yum yum sauce recipe, simply mix together a bit of mayo, nonfat Greek yogurt, tomato paste, melted butter, garlic powder, paprika, sugar and salt. Thin with a couple teaspoons of water to your preference and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to let the flavors meld.
Keto Yum Yum Sauce recipe notes:
This low carb yum yum sauce only has 2 grams of carbs as written, but if you’re looking for an even LOWER carb keto yum yum sauce, swapping out the teaspoon of sugar in the recipe for a sugar-free syrup or sugar substitute will cut down even more on the carbs. For a keto version, feel free to use a full fat Greek yogurt instead of the 0% fat yogurt I used.
