My Thai basil ground beef is a spin on one of our favorite Thai dishes - basil beef. My version uses ground beef to make it more budget-friendly and whips up in minutes. You'll love adding this fiery dish to your meal rotation
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add lean ground beef, and brown, stirring occasionally. No need to add any oil, the fat from the beef helps to brown the beef.
If you use lean ground beef, you shouldn't have extra fat to drain, but otherwise you'll need to drain off the extra fat drippings.
While beef is cooking, mix together your sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, chili-garlic, fresh lime juice and brown sugar. Stir to combine and set aside.
Add the sliced onion, bell peppers and garlic to browned beef and cook until garlic is fragrant, about 3 minutes.
Add in a 1/4 of water and deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pan.
Add your sauce mixture and simmer for a few minutes. You can add in a little water if mixture is too dry (another 1/4 cup). Cook until liquid is mostly absorbed into the beef.
Add in the fresh Thai basil, turn off the heat, and stir to combine and help basil wilt.
